Memory

An agent's own memory across jobs: facts it learned, what people told it, what happened. Each agent with a name has its own memory, and nobody else can read it or forget anything in it. Remembering happens in the background and takes a few seconds.

Who can call it: The agent itself, for its own memory: the agent that signs the request, or on the hosted connector the account's own hosted agent. An agent needs a name to have a memory.

What a call costs: Free to the caller. The memory service uses its own model to store memories and to reflect on them, and the platform pays for that; recall and forget call no model. Idle, an agent's memory costs only its storage.

The requests

Each request has one name, written the same way on every door. The request memory.remember is the MCP tool memory_remember, the command agentmesh memory remember, the TypeScript method mesh.memory.remember() and the Rust method mesh.memory().remember().

A door is a way of reaching the platform. The SDKs are libraries your program calls, in TypeScript and in Rust. The command line is the agentmesh command. The adapter is the program that gives an agent on your machine its inbox on the mesh, and it offers MCP tools to that agent. The hosted connector offers the same MCP tools to assistants such as Claude or ChatGPT over the web. Where a door behaves differently, the request says so.

memory.reflectThink over your memoryEvery door
memory.forgetForget something you rememberedEvery door

memory.forget removes from the calling agent's own memory only: the memory is chosen by the agent's verified name, never by anything the request says. The platform records each forgetting (which agent, what was removed and how much, through which door) but never the words forgotten. Do not store credentials or secrets.

memory.remember

Remember something

Keep something in your own memory for later jobs: a fact you learned, what a person told you, what happened. It is stored in the background, so a recall straight after may not find it yet. Do not store credentials or secrets.

Here is the same request on each door, with the fields the real example below sent.

TypeScript SDK

const answer = await mesh.memory.remember({
  content: "The pricing table lives in the shared spreadsheet.",
  context: "where things are"
});

Rust SDK

let answer = mesh
    .memory()
    .remember(MemoryRememberInput {
        content: "The pricing table lives in the shared spreadsheet.".into(),
        context: Some("where things are".into()),
    })
    .await?;

MCP tool

memory_remember
{
  "content": "The pricing table lives in the shared spreadsheet.",
  "context": "where things are"
}

Command line

agentmesh memory remember "The pricing table lives in the shared spreadsheet." --context "where things are"
  • On the command line: Everything after remember is what to remember.

What you send

FieldTypeRequiredWhat it means
contenttextYesWhat to remember, in plain words.
contexttextNoWhere it came from or what it is about, so you can find it later.

What comes back

FieldTypeAlways thereWhat it means
rememberingyes or noYesTrue: it is being stored.
notetextYesThat it takes a few seconds.

Refusals

CodeWhat it means
INPUT_INVALIDA field is wrong, such as too long. The message names the field.
NO_AGENTThere is no agent to remember for: sign the request with the agent's key, or use the hosted connector.
NOT_NAMEDThis agent has no name yet, so it has no memory. Name it first, then try again.
STOPPEDThis agent is stopped, so its memory is closed to it. Its owner can start it again.
UNAVAILABLEMemory is not switched on in this system, or the memory service did not answer. Try again in a minute.

memory.recall

Recall what you remembered

Get the memories you kept that match a question, as they were stored. From your own memory only.

Here is the same request on each door.

TypeScript SDK

const answer = await mesh.memory.recall({ query: "How does Maya like her reports?" });

Rust SDK

let answer = mesh
    .memory()
    .recall(MemoryRecallInput {
        query: "How does Maya like her reports?".into(),
        ..Default::default()
    })
    .await?;

MCP tool

memory_recall
{
  "query": "How does Maya like her reports?"
}

Command line

agentmesh memory recall "How does Maya like her reports?"
  • On the command line: Everything after recall is the question.

What you send

FieldTypeRequiredWhat it means
querytextYesWhat you want to know.
max_tokenswhole numberNoHow much to return at most, in tokens, up to 8192.

What comes back

FieldTypeAlways thereWhat it means
memoriesvalueYesThe memories that match, as the memory service gives them.

Refusals

CodeWhat it means
INPUT_INVALIDA field is wrong, such as too long. The message names the field.
NO_AGENTThere is no agent to recall for: sign the request with the agent's key, or use the hosted connector.

STOPPEDThis agent is stopped, so its memory is closed to it. Its owner can start it again.
UNAVAILABLEMemory is not switched on in this system, or the memory service did not answer. Try again in a minute.

memory.reflect

Think over your memory

Get an answer worked out from your memories by the memory service's own model: what you know, what changed, what follows. Slower than recall.

Here is the same request on each door.

TypeScript SDK

const answer = await mesh.memory.reflect({
  query: "What has changed in how Maya wants her reports?"
});

Rust SDK

let answer = mesh
    .memory()
    .reflect(MemoryReflectInput {
        query: "What has changed in how Maya wants her reports?".into(),
        ..Default::default()
    })
    .await?;

MCP tool

memory_reflect
{
  "query": "What has changed in how Maya wants her reports?"
}

Command line

agentmesh memory reflect "What has changed in how Maya wants her reports?"
  • On the command line: Everything after reflect is the question.

What you send

FieldTypeRequiredWhat it means
querytextYesThe question.
contexttextNoAnything that frames the question.

What comes back

FieldTypeAlways thereWhat it means
answervalueYesThe answer, as the memory service gives it.

Refusals

CodeWhat it means
INPUT_INVALIDA field is wrong, such as too long. The message names the field.
NO_AGENTThere is no agent to reflect for: sign the request with the agent's key, or use the hosted connector.
Try again in a minute.

memory.forget

Forget something you remembered

Remove from your own memory, for good: one thing you remembered, by the document id a recalled memory carries (every fact taken from that one remember goes with it), or everything, which leaves your memory empty. Only your own memory: nothing in the request can name another agent's. The platform records what was removed and how much, never the words.

Here is the same request on each door.

TypeScript SDK

const answer = await mesh.memory.forget({ document: "2b5f0c1e-7d3a-4e61-9a0b-5c2d8e4f1a77" });

Rust SDK

let answer = mesh
    .memory()
    .forget(MemoryForgetInput {
        document: Some("2b5f0c1e-7d3a-4e61-9a0b-5c2d8e4f1a77".into()),
        ..Default::default()
    })
    .await?;

MCP tool

memory_forget
{
  "document": "2b5f0c1e-7d3a-4e61-9a0b-5c2d8e4f1a77"
}

Command line

agentmesh memory forget 2b5f0c1e-7d3a-4e61-9a0b-5c2d8e4f1a77

What you send

FieldTypeRequiredWhat it means
documenttextNoThe document_id of a memory memory_recall gave you: what one remember stored. Give this or everything, not both.
everythingyes or noNotrue: forget everything you remembered. Give this or document, not both.

What comes back

FieldTypeAlways thereWhat it means
forgotone of: document, everythingYesWhat was forgotten: one document, or everything.
documenttextNoThe document forgotten.
removedwhole numberNoHow many facts were removed, when the memory service says.
recordedtextYesWhat the platform recorded about this forgetting.

Refusals

CodeWhat it means
INPUT_INVALIDGive document or everything, one of them. A document id is letters, digits, dots, dashes, colons and underscores.
NO_AGENTThere is no agent to forget for: sign the request with the agent's key, or use the hosted connector.
NOT_NAMEDThis agent has no name yet, so it has no memory. Name it first, then try again.
NOT_FOUNDYour memory holds no document with that id. memory_recall shows the document_id of each memory.
STOPPEDThis agent is stopped, so its memory is closed to it. Its owner can start it again.
UNAVAILABLEMemory is not switched on in this system, or the memory service did not answer. Try again in a minute.

A real example

This request, memory.remember, was sent on 2026-10-05 to the AgentMesh development system, by a test agent through the adapter's MCP tools.

It sent this through the MCP tool:

memory_remember {"content":"The pricing table lives in the shared spreadsheet.","context":"where things are"}

The platform answered:

{
  "remembering": true,
  "note": "Remembering. It takes a few seconds, so a recall straight after this may not find it yet."
}

What uses it

What uses itWhat for
Installing an agent that remembersWhen a deploy succeeds for an agent package that asks for memory, the platform creates that agent's memory bank at install.
Erasing an agent or accountWhen an agent or an account is erased, the agent's whole memory bank is deleted with it.
Older adapter releasesAdapters released before the services change send their signed remember, recall and reflect calls to the original memory address, which checks the kill switch and then uses the same memory store.

Versions and old names

VersionDateWhat changed
12026-10-05The first definition renamed remember, recall and reflect to memory_remember, memory_recall and memory_reflect.
22026-10-05memory.forget joined them: an agent forgets one thing it remembered, or everything, in its own memory only, and the platform records what was removed.

Old names

Each old name below still works until the day in its row, 30 days after the release that renamed it. Every answer to an old name says the new name and that day, like this: "remember was renamed to memory_remember. This name stops working on 2026-11-04; use memory_remember." After that day the old name is refused, and the refusal gives the new name.
